The Academy of American Poets was founded in 1934 to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to foster appreciation of contemporary poetry. The Academy is the largest organization in the United States dedicated specifically to the art of poetry.

Outreach to poets and to the general public is the Academy's mission. Their new space on Broadway includes a library that is also a performance space. Public readings will happen here on a weekly basis and be broadcast on NY 1 television.
